HOCKEY
QMJHL: Jakub Bundil's short-handed goal broke a 1-1 tie in the second period, and the Lewiston Maineiacs went on to a 5-2 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in Game 5 of their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League first-round series Friday night at the Colisee.
The defending QMJHL champions avoided elimination and cut their series deficit to 3-2. Game 6 is Monday at Cape Breton.
Stefano Giliati, Marc Bourgeois, Matt Bourdeau and Alexander Beaton also scored for the Maineiacs. Jonathan Bernier finished with 31 saves.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Tampa Bay Lightning Coach John Tortorella, a former UMaine player, will coach Team USA in the world championships in May in Quebec and Nova Scotia.
The U.S. will play an exhibition against Sweden at the Cumberland County Civic Center on April 27.
