BOSTON — DeMarlo Hale is the new bench coach for the Boston Red Sox under Manager Terry Francona.

Hale, the team's third-base coach for four seasons, replaces Brad Mills, hired as manager of the Houston Astros last month. Tim Bogar, who served one season as Boston's first-base coach, replaces Hale at third.

The Red Sox announced two other new assignments. Ron Johnson is moving from manager at Triple-A Pawtucket to first-base coach, and Rob Leary will become a major league coaching staff assistant after seven years as minor league field coordinator.

The team retained John Farrell as pitching coach, Dave Magadan as hitting coach and Gary Tuck as bullpen coach.
