Protesters took to Portland’s squares and streets Friday night in a pair of rallies. Above, dozens listen to speakers in Monument Square at an anti-war rally. The second march and rally protested Tuesday’s vote repealing Maine’s same-sex marriage law. Hundreds of people marched from City Hall to Congress Square, snarling traffic along Congress Street shortly after 6 p.m. They carried signs that read “Religion Must Not Govern” and “I Love Jesus and My Girlfriend,” and chanted, “We’re here. We’re queer. Get used to it.” Many motorists honked their horns in support, and high-fived participants as they moved through the stalled traffic.
