Many thanks for your interesting article (Oct. 23) on the move of the stone dragon from its old home to its new one at the East End Community School.
I am sure many generations of kids will have fun hopping from rock to rock along the dragon's "body."
One fact that Bob Keyes neglected to mention was that the statue was dedicated to the memory of Kay Wagenknecht-Harte, an urban designer and cultural liaison for the city of Portland who died of breast cancer in 1997.
Ms. Harte was an instrumental figure in creating a plan in the mid-1990s to revitalize Portland's downtown through arts-related enterprises. As someone who was involved with many meetings and consultant studies during that time, I can personally attest to how her vision lit a spark that led to many of the vibrant aspects of our wonderful community we take for granted today.
I hope that the city will erect a plaque continuing to honor her memory at the new site.
