Greg Kesich wrongly argues that regular people are unqualified to decide complex issues.
November 8, 2009

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ken Harwell lives in Cumberland.

I was astonished to see the headline "Ballot questions put too much in the voters' hands" (Nov. 4); but when I saw the name of the writer I realized that this kind of arrogance is to be expected from Greg Kesich.

I recommend he read the Constitution, which begins "We the people" and not "We the self-appointed opinion makers."

He goes on to argue that we are too ignorant to understand complex issues and that we should be content to vote for representatives.

The problem is that such persons go to Augusta and Washington and proceed to ignore the wishes of the people who pay them. This unacceptable behavior has been growing worse in recent years.

Many of the Washington crowd even admit with pride that they do not read the bills for which they vote.

I have not seen similar outrageous statements from Augusta but would not be surprised to find a similar attitude prevailing there.
