The Buffalo Sabres called up Portland Pirates goaltender Jhonas Enroth on Wednesday to fill in after backup goalie Patrick Lalime hurt his groin in practice.
Ryan Miller started in goal for the Sabres in Wednesday night's game against the New York Islanders. Buffalo Coach Lindy Ruff said it's unclear when Lalime will return.
It is the first NHL call-up for Enroth, in his second AHL season. While playing in 58 games last season, Enroth went 26-23-6 with a 2.75 goals-against average and .914 save percentage. After 10 games this season, he is 3-7 with a 3.90 gaa and .872 save percentage.
Portland Coach Kevin Dineen said a decision will be made today following practice on whether the Pirates will sign another goalie.
