Local election results were not available late Tuesday as voters decided on two council seats, a $2.5 million bond measure for a police station and whether to form a commission to review the town charter.
Three candidates battled for two seats in the council race, with incumbents Sharri MacDonald and Shawn O'Neill facing challenger William Danton, who served two terms on the council in the 1970s and 1980s.
Danton, 56, said the town has issues that prompted him to run again. He would like to focus on economic growth, bringing year-round businesses to the town and restoring its reputation.
O'Neill, 45, has served on the council for 12 years, and said he wants to continue to focus on fiscal responsibility.
MacDonald, 37, has served on the council for one term, and has been the council's chair for the past year. She said she wanted to continue the work she has started.
Residents were also asked to decide whether the town should form a commission to revise the current town charter or establish a new one.
John Bird, William Gombar, Paul Ladakakos, Ronald Regis and Michael Vallante are running for the six seats to be filled if the charter commission is approved. A sixth member would be determined by the number of write-in votes on the ballot, if that person accepts the position.
The bond would provide money for a new police station on E. Emerson Cummings Boulevard and be paid off with the town's rescue billing fund.
Officials said they need more space for administration and storage to replace the current building, built in 1975.
