A Family for ME is hosting informational sessions for those interested in becoming a foster or adoptive parent. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and for location information, interested participants should call 1-877-505-0545.

Safe Passage concert

Safe Passage will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a concert featuring Catie Curtis at 7 p.m. Sunday at Yarmouth High School's Performing Arts Center, 286 West Elm St.

Safe Passage, a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 by Bowdoin College graduate Hanley Denning, strives to empower children of families working in the Guatemala City garbage dump through education. Denning was killed two years ago while on a mission trip in Guatemala.

A pre-concert reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with Curtis and Lori Voornas, who will emcee the event.

Tickets cost $35 for a reserved seat in the first seven rows, $20 for adults and $10 for students, and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com or at Andy's Handy Store, Yarmouth Community Services and Bull Moose Music. For more information call, 650-8223 or go to www.safepassage.org.

Riverton group to meet

The Riverton Community Association is having a neighborhood meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverton School, 1600 Forest Ave. For more information, call 319-4773.

Raising Readers at museum

The Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine will host a Raising Readers Book Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Children will have the opportunity to meet book authors and illustrators whose books have been part of the program, including Melissa Sweet, David Elliott, Scott Nash and Kevin Hawkes. Admission to the museum is free for this event.

 

Food tasting, sale for Mercy

The Mercy Auxiliary is offering a Tastefully Simple food tasting and sale with Consultant Trish Mitchell from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Mercy Fore River, 175 Fore River Parkway. During the tasting, 10 percent of all sales will benefit the auxiliary. To register, call 879-3605.

 

Volunteer fair at Space

SPACE Gallery at 538 Congress St. is hosting a fair with nonprofit organizations recruiting volunteers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Organizations include The Children's Museum, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland, Add Verb Productions, The Telling Room, Wayside Soup Kitchen, Goodwill of Northern New England, Learning Works, Food Rescue, Community Bicycle Center, Maine Historical Society, Peace Action Maine, Meg Perry Center and more. The fair is free for all ages.

 

Program on hard times

State Street Church United Church of Christ has been hosting a series of programs relating to the economy called ''Tools for Hard Times.'' The third program deals with Common Security Clubs and how to face changing economic times together, led by Chuck Collins, a researcher with the Institute for Policy Studies. The program is 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, 159 State St. and is free. For details contact Anne Hendrix at 774-6396.
