The holidays can be stressful for anyone. Add cancer into the mix, and the stress level is raised. The Patrick Dempsey Center is offering classes in Lewiston, Rumford and Bridgton to help cancer patients, caregivers and survivors cope.

Fair for picking a pre-school

Topsham Public Library will host a Preschool Fair from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 25 Foreside Road to help parents match their pre-school-age children in a class setting that best meets their needs. Representatives from preschools in Topsham, Brunswick, Freeport and Falmouth will be on hand to discuss philosophy, tuition and facilities. Tag sale at Line Elementary

The Line Elementary School Parent-Teacher Committee will hold a tag sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the school gymnasium on Route 11. A bake sale, cake walk and raffles of goods and services from local businesses also will be offered. Proceeds will benefit activities including cultural and field trips. Poetry at Lithgow Library

Lithgow Public Library will host a morning of poetry beginning at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in its historic Reading Room at 45 Winthrop St. Susan Parks, Sally Joy and Gaylord Weston, members of the Winthrop-based Pondtown Poets, will read selections from their poetry. 'Touch A Truck' at school

The Berwick Parent Teacher Organization will sponsor a free ''Touch A Truck'' event with emergency and safety vehicles from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vivian Hussey Elementary on Blackberry Hill Road. Featured will be food vendors, raffles and tethered balloon rides.

Health fair looks at flu

Pen Bay Healthcare's annual Community Health and Safety Fair will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Rockland District High School. This year's event will focus on influenza, with a panel discussion and question and answer session, headed by infectious disease specialists from Pen Bay and the Maine Center for Disease Control. Go Red for Women event

The American Heart Association's fifth annual Maine ''Go Red For Women'' event will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at York County Community College. The event will feature interactive activities and health screenings to promote heart health in women. A medical panel will be available to answer questions. Young child discussion

United Way of York County and Every Child Matters will co-host a 2009 York County Community Conversation on Early Childhood from 7:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the Coastal House, 2128 Post Road. The topic is the economic impact of supporting the young child in York County.''

Lunch talk on gratitude

Kennebunk Free Library will host its final Lifewise at Lunch presentation from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday in Hank's Room.

Success strategist Amy Wood will offer ''The Amazing Power of Gratitude.'' Participants are welcome to bring lunch. This program is free and public.
