YARMOUTH — One of my favorite places to eat pizza – and you know I have a lot of them – is Pat's Pizza.
The original location is in Orono, and there are nine other locations, but Pat's Pizza in Yarmouth has always been a winner, thanks to the competent waitresses, convenient location, vintage signage and sports memorabilia. Not to mention that John Kyle and his son, Chris, owners since 1978, have kept the "family" in their business – and customers can tell in the consistently great food.
Seriously, what do they put in the pizza sauce? It's not only mouth-watering, it's addicting. Pizzas range from $5.50 for a nine-inch to $18.15 for a specialty pie. With multiple toppings and suggestions for combinations, choosing can be extremely difficult. I just play it safe and get onion and pepperoni. Every. Single. Time.
Avoiding gluten? Pat's in Yarmouth has gluten-free crust and many vegetarian and low-fat options for people with particular needs.
The restaurant also serves bread sticks ($3.50), which are another great way to get that tasty sauce in your mouth. Try the nachos ($6.25) or the steak quesadilla ($7.35). A baked potato and soup or salad will run you $5.50, and there are plenty of rollup sandwiches, burgers and low-cost dinners such as stuffed shells ($7.15) and chicken cacciatore ($8.35).
The children's menu has the classic child favorites, and the dessert menu includes ice cream on a cone with jimmies and apple crisp. The fresh baked apple crisp is served piping hot, and is chewy and crispy with a huge scoop of French vanilla ice cream on top.
Yarmouth locals love the bar at Pat's. Please say "Hi" to my friend Randy while admiring the beer selection. On draft, Pat's carries Budweiser ($2.65), Bud Light, Stella Artois, Geary's ($3.50), Guinness, Harpoon IPA, Miller Lite, PBR, Samuel Adams, Shipyard, Shipyard Seasonal and Gritty's. Geary's pitchers go for $11.25, or get a PBR pitcher for $6.
Bottled beer varieties include Amstel Light, Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors Light, Corona, Heineken, Heineken Light, Miller Genuine Draft, Miller Lite, Michelob Ultra, Newcastle, Rolling Rock, Sea Dog Blueberry ($3.10), Twisted and Raspberry Twisted Tea and gluten-free Red Bridge ($4.25).
Pat's has a fully stocked bar for liquor options, featuring daily drinks named after bartenders and several wine choices like Sterling pinot grigio, Coppola chardonnay and Smoking Loon pinot noir.
So what's on special, you ask? Every Monday through Friday, mixed well drinks are $3.50. During happy hour, $2 drafts and bottles and half-priced appetizers are in full swing.
During Red Sox games and football games, shown on the NFL package, you can get many domestic beers for $1.99 and specially priced apps. Thursday's are for $3 Sam Adams.
While I frequently consider this a family restaurant with its huge dining room loaded with booths and televisions, I also adore a place where I can share a pitcher and watch the game with my friends in the bar.
Pat's Pizza in Yarmouth meets all my dining out and drinking needs, regardless of who I'm with.
