PORTLAND — Have you always wanted to eat your way through Maine? This weekend's Harvest on the Harbor food festival offers you the chance to do just that. The four-day event allows you to sample the delicious flavors of this foodie state, all in one place.
The event kicks off Thursday night with the sold-out Grand Tasting. But there's no need to worry if you don't have tickets, because one of the best tasting opportunities takes place Saturday, when the Food and Wine Marketplace runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the Ocean Gateway Pier. Tickets cost $35 each.
Your ticket gets you a souvenir wine glass, which you'll need to sample beverages from a number of national wine distributors. In addition, you'll be able to taste locally distilled vodka from Cold River and Twenty 2 and locally brewed beer from Allagash, Gritty's, Sebago and Shipyard.
There will be plenty of food to pair with your drinks. Look for bite-sized samples from local eateries, including Eastland Park Hotel, DiMillo's, Gelato Fiasco, North Star Cafe, O'Naturals and Other's Cafe; and local food producers, including Backyard Farms, Better Bread Co., Catch a Piece of Maine, Cranberry Island Kitchen, Cue Culture, Dean's Sweets, DennyMike's 'Cue Stuff, Hancock Gourmet Lobster Co., Lakonia Greek Products, Oakhurst Dairy, Portland Shellfish Co., Ricker Hill Orchards, Simply Divine Brownies, Smiling Hill Farm, Spelt Right Baking Co., Sweet Marquerites, Wilbur's of Maine and World Harbors.
