Damariscotta’s Pumpkinfest boasts both paddle-powered and motorized pumpkin boats. This year’s paddle-powered pumpkin boat race takes place on Sunday at 2 p.m. The motorized pumpkin boat regatta follows at 3:30 p.m.

AL KOOPER

"Al Kooper, by rights, should be regarded as one of the giants of '60s rock," says the All Music Guide. As a teenager, he was part of the band the Royal Teens, which had a hit with "Short Shorts."

PUMPKINFEST

Some climb aboard a floating gourd

The annual Damariscotta Pumpkinfest has lots of fun things to do – games and activities and storytelling for the kids, music and a parade, underwater pumpkin carving and pumpkin catapulting and drops – but the big draw of this fall festival has to be the paddle-powered pumpkin boat race and the motorized pumpkin boat regatta. Open Mic Radio

The University of Southern Maine`s community radio station, WMPG (90.9 and 104.1 FM), is once again holding an open mic radio show. Local musicians, comedians and spoken word artists may perform in front of a live audience at the university. The performances are broadcast live on WMPG. Acoustic instruments preferred. No drum kits allowed. Performers should arrive between 2:30 and 4:45 p.m. Go to www.wmpg.org for information.

Garaj Mahal

There are some bands that you just want to sit and listen to, and then there are some bands that you just want to groove to on the dance floor. Garaj Mahal is one of those bands for which you want to be on the dance floor. The quartet blends funk, jazz improv and even a bit of Middle Eastern mystique. Peppino D'Agostino

Italian native Peppino D'Agostino moved to California in 1985 for love. The acoustic guitarist struggled as a musician, painting houses and selling vegetables to support himself as he picked up gigs and finally got a recording contract. Harmonica Blowout

Blues harmonica player Mark Hummel and the Blues Survivors have been touring their Harmonica Blowout show since 1991. The show brings together renowned artists such as James Cotton, Kim Wilson, Kenny Neal and others. The Blowout makes two stops in Maine this weekend with Sugar Ray Norica, Billy Branch and Lee Oskar. Vermont-based folk trio Bread and Bones returns to Portland's North Star Music Cafe Friday evening. The trio's album, "I Know Stories," was selected as Vermont's Best Traditional Album in 2008.
