There are many places I have lived and Maine is where my heart belongs. Growing up in South Portland we were close to the ocean. My parents were comfortable taking us to the lakes, usually Sebago for a picnic.. We’d leave in the early morning to wait in line at the State Park with a mad rush to secure a table and grill. Route 114 was rural back then. Upon arrival, we stayed till sunset. Today, I live on Route 114 and witnesse tourists all summer pass my house as they head through the gateway to the Lakes Region. Our state is rich with beautiful lakes, rivers, streams , water holes, and even a few waterfalls. The coastline is dotted with lighthouses and old forts. The islands of Casco Bay have a rich history including a visitor by canoe named Pocohontas. Winter has many tourists & locals with the ice shacks down by the boat ramp at Sebago. Snowshoeing, Hiking, ATVs and Snowmobiling  on the well maintained trails provide pleasure for many.

Northern Maine has wilderness that has remained unchanged since Maine was a Province. Hunting camps and Lodges dot the shores of  lakes. The diverse populations of Franco Americans and Native American Indian, including Passamaquoddy , MicMac, Abenaki, Sokosis. Their stories and names are a rich part of Maine’s history.

My interests are the people who came to Maine when it was a frontier.. Many French walked from Quebec on the Old Canada Road. Some Irish, arriving in N.B,Canada, walked through the woods to Washington County.

Maine people are hard working & independent. Falmouth, Maine[ Portland] was burned by the British[1775] and was so significant that town burnings were mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. Let’s celebrate the Spirit of Maine people.
