Summer in Maine is a magical time of year. It means opening camps, beautiful flowers and plants in abundance, hearing loons, enjoying a connection to nature that only Maine can offer. It is a special time because it is so fleeting.

It means delicious public suppers, haddock and lobster, blueberries, shopping at Reny's “ A Maine Adventure”, outdoor concerts on the lawn in the amphitheater, boating, jumping off floats in the pond. In Maine everywhere you go, there is a harbor; one can watch the variety of boats and occasionally get a discounted ride if the boat is not completely full.

At the end of July comes the blueberry harvest. There are blueberry pies, blueberry buckles, muffins, everything blueberry as well as a blueberry festival at the Union Fair, which features the Maine wild blueberry. Summer in Maine means The Clam Festival where the clam is honored, and the Lobster festival which is one of the largest festivals and parades and pays homage to the lobster.

Summer in midcoast Maine means the Alumni Banquet. All who attended a one-building school in Rockport, Maine, before 1965 attend; some still attend who graduated in l934. In Maine, a small town way of life has been preserved and towns still maintain old fashioned charm. People help each other, know each other, and when one comes back things are still the same.

Maine is the essence of all untouched and serene. Looking over a pond in the early morning and seeing the reflection of the trees and shoreline brings complete tranquility and a reminder to savor every moment of this brief and glorious season.
