CAMDEN
Series of culinary tours kicks off with Thailand trip
The Camden Harbour Inn is planning a series of luxury culinary tours, beginning with trips to Thailand on Jan. 7 and 28, 2010.
The 14-day tours include deluxe accommodations, breakfast daily, cooking classes, visits to restaurants, excursions to local markets, visits to historic sites and temples, and elephant rides.
A local Thai guide, an employee of the inn and the inn's executive chef, Lawrence Klang, will lead the tours. The trips are being planned by Raymond Brunyanszki, the owner of the Camden Harbour Inn and a former tour leader for companies offering high-end tours of the Far East. Brunyanszki has based the itinerary on his past trips to Thailand and has negotiated special rates at some of Thailand's finest hotels.
The culinary tour starts at $3,790 per person, not including airfare, based on double occupancy and a minimum of 16 guests. For more information, call 236-4200 or go online to www.camdenharbourinn.com

Cleonice chef opens new bistro overlooking the bay
Chef Rich Hanson, owner of the Mediterranean bistro Cleonice in Ellsworth, has opened a new "farmhouse bistro" called Table.
Hanson has twice been nominated for the James Beard Foundation's "Best Chef: Northeast" award.
Jeff Kelly, who has worked at Cleonice for five years, will be chef de cuisine at the new restaurant. Cary Hanson, the chef's wife, will direct servers and front-of-house staff, and Kate Holden will be house manager.
Food at the new restaurant will be sourced from local providers and from the Hansons' own farm, "Artisana," where the couple produce vegetables, herbs, flowers, pork and eggs.
The restaurant is located in a rustic 19th-century iron forge, and it has a deck overlooking Blue Hill Bay. In addition to the main dining room, there is a streamside porch with windows overlooking a rushing brook.
Table is located at 66 Main St. and is open Tuesday through Sunday. It is closed Mondays.
