Maine's summer is not limited to one or two activities, but numerous possibilities that keep me here year after year.  Born and raised in Monterey, California I know what it is like to spend the summer at the beach, but in Maine you get more options then that. There is nothing like taking a walk around Mackworth Island and see all of the fairy houses that children have built or hopping on the mail boat to experience the life of the "Islanders."  Maine provides a chance for everyone to stay healthy and fit in a fun way.  Between Peaks to Portland and Trek Across Maine, everyone can find an event to train for or join an adult sports league and play a sport that you were always interested in.

Even if you are a Mainer you can still vacation in Maine. Maine provides us with a chance to stay close to home and not spend as much money, but get away from our daily tasks so we can relax and breathe in some fresh air at Acadia National Park or Bar Harbor.  How about the food?  I buy lobsters every Sunday from my local lobsterman usually at the low price of $4.99 a pound.  As I am dipping my lobster in butter I call my uncle in California just to let him know what he is missing out on because if he wants to taste what I am eating he will be paying about $18.00 a pound.

Maine may get its share of rain, but that never stopped anyone from going out to Reggae Fest on Peaks Island or having a swim down Stillwater River to play out a scene from Dirty Dancing.  Even though people may think of me as a Californian girl, I love my Maine summers!
