Voters passed a commercial development review ordinance during Saturday's town meeting, but not before considerable discussion.

Town Clerk Sharon Moody said after the meeting that the Planning Board might take another look at the ordinance, which planners say is designed to balance the rural town's character with the need to encourage new business. Planning Board member Judy Rock said before the meeting that the construction of wind turbines and cell phone towers is among residents' concerns.

Moody said residents questioned the 1,000-foot setback for wind towers. The amount of propane allowed in tanks also prompted discussion, she said.

"They thought the setback should be more," Moody said. "I believe they will be reviewing some of the items because of the discussion that took place. They may do some amendments."

Residents made few changes to spending, meaning that the municipal budget stands at about $258,796, Moody said. They agreed to take $60,000 from surplus, compared to $74,600 last year.

In one change, residents voted to take $8,000 instead of $2,500 from a forestry account for the building maintenance fund, Moody said.
