About 80 residents at the town meeting Saturday approved an estimated $630,000 municipal budget and re-elected James Reid to the Board of Selectmen.

Nearly every item on the town warrant was approved, said Selectman Richard Deans. Residents voted to raise $42,000 for the municipal fire department; $71,100 to care for summer roads; $75,000 to tar roads; $86,000 to operate the transfer station; $93,000 to operate the town offices; and $160,00 to maintain winter roads.

"That figure is based on what we've spent over the last two years. We have had an awful lot of big snowstorms," Deans said. "I think the meeting went very well. The budget was flat. We had no increases over last year's budget. We tried to do our best to keep things low as possible and still maintain roads and things in town."

Residents voted against an ordinance that would put guidelines on someone putting a windmill on their property.

"They felt they wanted more time to study the ordinance and bring it back at a special town meeting to review. It's one of those issues that needs to be addressed, but they need more information before they make a sound commitment," Deans said.

Joan Clough was re-elected as town clerk, treasurer and tax collector.

Janette Packard was re-elected as a trustee of the Moody Library, and Katherine Rideout was elected to the board of directors for School Administrative District 17.
