About 100 residents approved an estimated $630,000 municipal budget and rejected a proposal to raise $256,000 for road maintenance.

Selectman Keith Farrington said the budget represents a $30,000 decrease over last year's budget.

Residents voted against keeping a firetruck, which the town tried to sell. The firetruck is still available – if anyone is interested.

Residents voted against adding money to the surplus fund. The selectman wanted to keep $100,000 in surplus, but voters disagreed, Farrington said.

"Now, we have $80,000 in surplus. It means we have less reserve money to tide us over when the budget ends till we start receiving tax money," Farrington said.

Residents voted to raise $30,000 to maintain summer roads; $92,000 to maintain winter roads; and $7,700 for 18 social service agencies.

Farrington said the meeting went well and residents asked some good questions on town issues.

"I've seen some contentious meetings and this wasn't bad," he said.
