About 40 residents at the town meeting Saturday voted to give town employees a 3 percent raise.
Residents approved an estimated $515,400 municipal budget, which includes cutbacks to social service agencies. Of the eight nonprofit organizations that asked for financial support, none will receive the entire amount that it requested.
"The Budget Committee recommended a lesser amount, and the townspeople went with it," said Selectman Jackie Conant, who was re-elected to a three-year term. "I think those agencies will be happy with what they get."
Residents voted to raise $25,000 for a highway road reserve fund; $56,499 for protection and enforcement; $8,000 for the recreation department; and nearly $30,000 for the fire department.
Voters decided to raise $15,000 that will be split evenly among the fire department, highway and solid waste reserve accounts.
"I guess I might have gone with half of that. We tried to hold the line on spending," Conant said.
There was considerable discussion on the property known as Village Ridge. Residents decided to allow the Board of Selectmen to sell the property. Conant said the board needs more input from residents, which may require another town meeting.
"We were hoping for some feedback," she said. "With the economic situation, some questioned wether we should try to sell it now or try to sell it to a developer. I think we will take it back to the town. There needs to be more discussion about it."
In the elections Friday, Bernard Adams and Sue Degroot were elected to the Planning Board for three-year terms.
