Paul Frederic was elected in town-meeting voting Friday to fill an open seat on the Board of Selectmen.
The term of office is one year and fills a position left vacant by Jane Brackett, who stepped down because of health concerns, Selectman Joe Miller said Saturday.
In the race for tax collector, Nicole Nelson, the incumbent, beat challenger Heather Waugh for a three-year term.
On the ballot for director for School Administrative District 59, incumbent Carol Coles lost to Diane Russo.
From the floor of Saturday's annual town meeting, voters agreed to appropriate $8,567 for the recycling program with Anson-based Kennebec Valley Regional Waste Corp. but rejected curbside trash pickup.
Miller said residents said "no" to spending $46,000 for contracted local pickup of household trash.
Other spending proposals approved Saturday included $11,915 for the Anson Madison Starks Ambulance Service; $40,000 for equipment; and a total of $35,000 for summer roads and $67,000 for winter roads.
The Budget Committee had recommended spending $62,000 for winter roads.
Voters also agreed to come up with $44,588 to cover the overdrafts in the public works budget in 2008.
The winter-roads budget, the equipment account and spending for the town garage all exceeded approved spending lines last year.
They also approved a spending request for $39,585, in 12 installments this year, for the town grader and approved raising the total salary for the Board of Selectmen from $6,000 to $9,000.
