Waterford cut its budget at town meeting Saturday by eliminating road reconstruction projects and putting off any major equipment purchases.
The budget approved at the meeting cuts about $195,000 from last year's budget, said John Bell, one of the town's selectmen. He said the new budget stands at just slightly more than $1 million. Bell said town employees also agreed to a budget freeze to cut spending because of the poor economy.
Bell also said residents at the meeting rejected a proposed shoreland zoning amendment. The amendment's wording wasn't clear on whether a non-conforming structure that's damaged – by a storm, for example – could be rebuilt. The amendment will go back to the town's planning board for more work, Bell said.
Other than that, Bell said the meeting was uneventful.
In an uncontested election, Richard Hunt was elected selectman.
