Here are the new household income limits for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program:

1 person: $24,765

2 people: $32,386

3 people: $40,006

4 people: $47,626

5 people: $55,246

6 people: $62,866

IN SOUTHERN MAINE, three social service agencies administer the program: York County Community Action Corporation; People's Regional Opportunity Program, which covers most of Cumberland County and Midcoast Community Action, which can be reached by phone at 442-7963.

price of about $2.70 a gallon.

Filling a standard, 275-gallon heating oil tank last October cost $745. Filling it this week will cost $995.

Numbers like that explain the steady flow of work at Sawyer-Manter's agency, which is receiving about 20-25 applications a day for fuel assistance from people who did not qualify or participate last year.

Sawyer-Manter said she's hoping families will apply promptly, but will also use patience as her agency and others try to allocate a larger amount of aid to a much larger pool of qualified households.

"I suspect that the pie slices will get smaller," she said.
