CHEVERUS
COACH: Bob Brown
STARTING FIVE:
F - Mick DiStasio, 6-foot-3, junior (14.0 ppg)
F - Peter Foley, 6-foot-4, junior (6.0 ppg)
C - Ian Barwise, 6-foot-4, junior (8.0 ppg)
G - Doug Alston, 6-foot-1, senior (8.6 ppg)
G - Indiana Faithfull, 6-foot-2, sophomore (8.2 ppg)
KEYS TO VICTORY: The Stags are playing their best basketball of the season, even better than during their 14-game winning streak. They'll need to continue at that level to have any chance of upsetting Bangor, which has won 31 straight over two seasons. To do that, Cheverus needs to limit the Rams, a strong rebounding team, to one shot. If Bangor is hitting its shots or getting two and three shots at the basket, the Stags are in for a long game. The Stags have to be aggressive at both ends of the floor to counteract Bangor's intensity. When they're open, the Stags have to make their shots, especially from 3-point range where they like to shoot. Cheverus has had five different leading scorers. "Everyone has to step up if the opportunity presents itself," said Coach Bob Brown.
BANGOR
COACH: Roger Reed
STARTING FIVE:
F - Billy Zolper, 6-foot-4, senior (9.1 ppg)
F - Adam Bernstein, 6-foot-3, senior (3.9 ppg)
C - Ryan Weston, 6-foot-5, senior (12.7 ppg)
G - Lee Suvlu, 6-foot-3, senior (8.7 ppg)
G - Jon McAllian, 6-foot-5, senior (12.1 ppg)
KEYS TO VICTORY: Bangor can score inside or outside and will look to do both. The Rams will take what Cheverus gives them. Bangor can play uptempo if need be, but most likely, will settle down into a halfcourt game. The Rams have allowed only 40 points per game while scoring 64 points. McAllian and Suvlu are strong 3-point shooters, and Weston can be a force inside. Bangor will look to shut down the Stags with a tight man-to-man defense. The Rams are athletic and have some good leapers. Controlling the boards is something they expect to do. The defending champion Rams have won 31 straight.
