THE NATIONAL GALLERY of Art in Washington, D.C., has a terrific site for children. But don`t let your age stop you from spending some time there.
AT FIRST I HAD TROUBLE loading the different projects but a 7-year-old field tester reported that she loved the site. So back to The Art Zone I went. There are 15 projects in all to explore. I am paid to surf but spending all day making interactive art in the newsroom might have been asking for trouble. So I limited my investigations to the PixelFace and the Dutch House.
I PIXILATED the Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington and I didn`t think it was ever going to recover so I went to the Dutch House. I could have happily spent a great deal of time in this Vermeer-like structure, changing the paintings on the wall, the time of day, the floor covering and adding people to the rooms and pigs to the courtyard. It is very fun and so beautiful that I felt great pleasure in creating even the most hectic and crowded groupings.
