AUGUSTA — Gov. John Baldacci and much of central Maine are mourning the death of Donald Twitchell, a former state representative, state senator and town manager from Norway.

Twitchell, who died Wednesday, served five terms in the state House of Representatives from 1973 to 1982 and five terms in the Maine Senate from 1983 to 1992.

Twitchell had been ill, and the governor said that he visited him just last week.

The governor called Twitchell a generous man who was passionate about serving the people of Norway.

"I feel lucky to have served with Don," Baldacci said.
