It wasn't a freak storm. The New England Patriots are going to another Super Bowl.
Still unbeaten, but now battle-tested, the Patriots advanced to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in the last seven seasons by beating the San Diego Chargers 21-12 Sunday in the AFC championship game.
The 18-0 Patriots will play the NFC champion New York Giants on Feb. 3 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
"I'm glad we have a week off here to regroup a little bit, try to elevate our game for one last performance," said quarterback Tom Brady, who threw three interceptions but also two touchdown passes.
New England is 3-2 in the Super Bowl, having won after the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons.
The Patriots' defense was superb, four times holding San Diego to field goals. The Chargers entered the game on an eight-game winning streak and ended defending champion Indianapolis' reign a week ago.
Brady had plenty of help on offense, particularly from running backs Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk. Maroney rushed for 122 yards for the second consecutive playoff game. Faulk caught eight passes for 82 yards, many of them crucial receptions that kept drives going.
