Eat right, get plenty of rest and be prepared to play at an unusual hour.
The Bulldogs host the Tigers in a Western Class A game that was postponed Dec. 13 because of a snowstorm. As for the 9:20 start time?
"This is the only time it works for the ice arena and both teams," Dambrie said.
Late nights are becoming a way of high school hockey life. The Portland Ice Arena has 10 9 p.m. or later starts. "It's getting to be more like that with new teams," Dambrie said.
The late faceoff ends a stretch of nine days off for the Bulldogs, who are sixth in Heal points and ninth in the Maine Class A Coaches Association top-10 poll. Dambrie shrugged off any notion that nine days without games could breed monotony.
You always have stuff that you can cover," Dambrie said. "Offensive zone, defensive zone, neutral zone, penalty killing, power play, there's always something you can go over."
After nine days off, Portland (5-2-1) takes on the heart of its schedule, beginning with Biddeford. Its next six games include Lewiston at 2 p.m. Monday at the Colisee, Kennebunk at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Biddeford Ice Arena, Falmouth at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at Family Ice Center and Biddeford again at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at the BIA.
