Aug. 25 event will benefit store manager's survivors
A fundraiser has been scheduled for Aug. 25 to honor one of three men slain earlier this month.
Jim Walker, the manager of the Army Barracks store in Conway, was killed in the July 2 shooting, along with Gary Jones and William Jones, both of Massachusetts.
Michael L. Woodbury, who grew up in Windham, Maine, was charged with the slayings.
Walker, of Denmark, left two young children, and organizers say the proceeds will benefit his family.
The event will feature DJs, barbecue, live music and a raffle. It is scheduled to run from noon to midnight at the American Legion Post 46 on Tasker Hill Road in Conway.
Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door or in advance from the Legion post, the Army Barracks in Conway or the TD Banknorth teller line.

Residents voting today on change to town plan
Voters will decide today on a proposed change to the town's comprehensive plan.
The change was prompted by a proposal by Hannaford Bros. to build a supermarket on Route 26, north of Route 26A. The change, however, would affect more than the store project.
It would create a highway commercial area in the triangle formed by Route 26, the Maine Turnpike and the Evergreen Grove subdivision. Most of the area is now part of the rural, residential and agricultural district.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Newbegin Center.
