GARDINER BASEBALL: Tigers bring in the fences
It still takes a pretty decent shot to hit a ball out of Gardiner's Hoch Field, but this year it will be a little easier since the fences were moved in 45 feet down the left and right field lines.
It’s 330 feet down each line and 350 to center. Last year, it was 375 feet down both lines and the wind rarely blows out.
“We did it last Monday,” Gardiner coach Jim Palmer said. “We just decided to try to make it a (symmetrical) ball park. We’ve been waiting for years to try to get them in.”
The power alleys are deep, about 350 feet, although the measurements aren’t noted on the fence. Last season, Gardiner’s Sean McNally and Kyle Stilphen were the only players who managed to hit a ball over the outfield fence.
