Is Lugo ready?
Julio Lugo went 2-for-3 in his return to the Red Sox on Tuesday night. But he also made some fielding mistakes and had to leave the game early because his knee was swelling. After the game, he told reporters he was not quite 100 percent.
If he is not ready, why is he in the majors? Shouldn't he still be in Pawtucket?
Just wondering.
Pawtucket was rained out Tuesday night, but Portland provided a thrilling 9-8 win with 3 runs in the ninth.
Josh Reddick (.294) went 2-for-5 ... Bubba Bell (.279) was 2-for-4 with the game-winning hit ... Jon Still (.255) was 2-for-3 with a monster home run.
Portland's pitching (5.22 ERA) remains a problem. Reliever Dustin Richardson looked fine, however, with 1 1/3 innings (0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K).
Salem is not getting much hitting in advanced Class A, although Ryan Kalish (.291) went 1-for-3 and Luis Exposito (.255) hit his second home run.
Greenville starter Casey Kelly gave up his first runs this season. He still pitched okay in 5 innings (9 H, 3 R (2 earned), 1 BB, 7 K). In 20 innings this year, Kelly's line is: 19 H, 2 ER, 3 BB and 19 K).
Oscar Tejeda (.253) went 2-for-3 for Greenville, and Michael Almanzar (.233) hit his third home run.
