399 pitches later, Sea Dogs lose 20-15
The Portland Sea Dogs played one for the record books Sunday, in a 20-15 loss to Connecticut at Hadlock Field.
Portland set team records for combined runs in a game and combined hits (43).
In the game, catcher Mark Wagner (playing DH) suffered a mild hamstring strain running the bases. He is expected to be out 7-to-10 days.
Sunday's game featured big innings.
Portland scored 5 in the second for a 5-0 lead.
Connecticut scored 8 in the third for an 8-5 lead.
Portland scored 10 in the sixth for a 15-12 lead.
Connecticut scored seven in the eighth for a 19-12 lead.
Josh Reddick hit his fifth home run of the season.
Both Jorge Jimenez and Aaron Bates went 4-for-6. Jimenez is batting .397.
Lars Anderson upped his average to .306 with a 3-for-5 day, and five RBI (now with 13).
But the Sea Dogs pitching showed little command: 182 pitches (118 strikes) and seven walks.
Portland starter Blake Maxwell pitched two scoreless innings, but did not get out of the third (7 of his 8 runs were earned).
Reliever Chris Province (2-3) took the loss, giving up 7 runs (5 earned) in the eighth.
Portland (7-9) takes today off and will play again at Hadlock on Tuesday.
