Red Sox "relentless" lineup, and their depth
After the Red Sox romp on Saturday, Newsday looks at Boston's "relentless" lineup.
In the Sunday Telegram we look at how the Red Sox stockpiled infielders and outfielders to provide them depth.
There is also a story on Junichi Tazawa and his rough outing on Saturday.
In the Sunday Telegram story, we revisit the Eric Gagne trade that sent Kason Gabbard and David Murphy to Texas, along with teen-age prospect Engel Beltre.
Gagne, of course, did not work out for the Red Sox. But, so far, it looks like they have not given up much. Boston just got Gabbard back (we assume for little cash) after his struggles and demotion to the minors. Murphy did not fit in Boston's plans, and he is struggling early this season with the Rangers.
Beltre could turn out to be a start. The 19-year-old outfielder is currently being challenged in advanced Class A, batting only .169 in 16 games.
One note from Saturday's minor league games. Daniel Bard has been so good in Triple-A this year, except when he gives up a hit. He has given up only two hits in 10 2/3 innings this year, but both have been home runs, including one on Saturday.
Still, his ERA is 1.69.
