Wilkerson retires; Buchholz looking at Wednesday
Lots of news out of Pawtucket from the Providence Journal concerning Brad Wilkeron (retiring), Clay Buchholz (on the mend) and Jeff Natale (looking to be an outfielder).
As for the Red Sox, they must be thrilled to see Jon Lester back in form, along with a four-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, David Ortiz is batting .170 with no home runs. The slump reminds Sox fans of his troubles starting 2008, when Ortiz was batting .111 through April 17 (he hit a grand slam the next day).
But now Ortiz is coming off a wrist injury, and concern will continue to mount.
In the minors, Portland infielder Zach Borowiak was activated and went 1-for-3 Sunday with a triple.
Junichi Tazawa went 4 2/3 innings for the Sea Dogs on Sunday (6H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K). In three starts, his ERA is 2.30.
Salem outfielder Ryan Kalish(.353) went 2-for-4.
On Friday in Greenville, pitching prospects Casey Kelly and Caleb Clay put on a second straight dominating performance. Kelly pitched 5 innings (4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K) and Clay followed with 4 IP (3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K). Both have a 0.00 ERA.
