Game on hold
Today's Yankees-Red Sox will not start at the scheduled time (3:50 p.m.) because of rain.
And the rain should last for "a few hours," meaning this afternoon game could become a night game, if it is played at all.
MLB and the players will want to get this game in. No one wants a day/night doubleheader on Sunday.
The Red Sox lineup has a Pawtucket feel to it, in the outfield and at shortstop:
Mark Kotsay, 1B
Jed Lowrie, 3B
David Ortiz, DH
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
Chris Carter, LF
Jason varitek, C
Jeff Bailey, RF
Jonathan Van Every, CF
Gil Velazquez, SS
(Daisuke Matsuzaka, P)
Be curious is Matsuzaka remains the starter as the delay goes on.
As for injuries, manager Terry Francona said third baseman Mike Lowell's hip is feeling better than last night when he had to come out of the game. Lowell is shut down for the rest of the weekend. The plan is for him to work out Tuesday in Anaheim to determine if he can be on the post-season roster.
As for right fielder J.D. Drew, he remains out of the lineup with a herniated disc in his back. He could also be a last-minute decision in regards to the playoff roster.
