Sox lineup, Colon, Hansack
Bartolo Colon may be done as a starter for the Red Sox, depending on Boston's plan in this stretch run for the playoffs.
Colon pitched Saturday, getting a no-decision (6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 1 K). He remains Boston's sixth starter in a five-man rotation.
When asked when Colon would go again, Boston manager Terry Francona said, "We don't have an answer to that right now. We have an off-day coming up in Toronto (Thursday). We don't have the need to skip anybody. Everybody seems healthy.
"We'll probably sit down (Monday) to see how we feel about it. Some of it may have to do with circumstances - what our record is, which way we're going. So we may not know (Monday)."
As for Devern Hansack (a subject of the last blog), he is likely out of any post-season consideration, despite three perfect innings in relief on Saturday.
"I thought he pitched well," Francona said. "When you get into a September situation and you've played a whole year with guys, changing roles is difficult. I understand why you're asking. I thought he threw the ball really well.
"I think there is talk for some time that this kid, at some point, may be on our ballclub. But with two weeks to go in the year, it's kind of hard to go further than that on what his role could be."
Concerning Julio Lugo, Francona said he is taking ground balls. But is Francona more optimistic that Lugo can come back this year? "I don't know if I'm more optimistic," he said.
Now for the Sox lineup:
Jacoby Ellsbury, RF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
David Ortiz, DH
Kevin Youkilis, 1B
Mike Lowell, 3B
Jason Bay, LF
Jason Varitek, C
Alex Cora, SS
Coco Crisp, CF
(Jon Lester, P)
The tarp is on the infield, although the relievers are getting their throwing in, in the outfield. The forecast is iffy for a while, but we may get lucky.
