Prospects proving themselves
There is supposed to be a time for adjustment when a player goes from Class A to Double-A.
In 24 games, first baseman/designated hitter Lars Anderson seems to have figured it out. He went 2-for-3 Wednesday and his batting .329.
Shortstop Argenis Diaz went 2-for-4 and is batting .299.
The Sea Dogs pitching also shined in their 5-3 win. Lefty Kris Johnson was mixing pitches with command (5 2/3 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K) and Daniel Bard kept lighting up the radar gun. He faced 5 batters (4K, 1 BB), with the fastball hitting 99 m.p.h.
In Triple-A, Edgar Martinez (7-2, 3.79) is adjusting well as a starter (6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K) ... Beau Vaughan (4.91) relieved (1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K), as did Hunter Jones (1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K; 3.30 ERA) ... Jeff Corsaletti (.194) stroked 2 doubles.
David Pauley is scheduled to pitch today for Pawtucket. He spent Wednesday night at Fenway, just in case. Now Pauley goes back down and slugger Jeff Bailey comes up.
Lancaster catcher Luis Exposito (.287) went 2-for-5. Exposito's name comes up often when Boston's catching future is debated ... Infielder Kris Negron (.327) went 2-for-5.
Greenville's 19-year-old outfielder David Mailman (.254) remains hot (.405 in his last 10 games) and was 2-for-4.
According to soxprospects.com, Greenville outfielder Ryan Kalish (.281, 2 HR, 18 SB) has been promoted to Lancaster. Kalish, 20, is a rising prospect.
Lowell's 20-year-old outfielders Mitch Dening (.324) and Luis Sumoza (.268) both collected 3 hits.
A reminder that today's Sea Dogs game is at noon. While it is a sellout, several returned season tickets are expected to be available at the box office, which opens at 9 a.m.
