See Jason Run
Jason Bay is not likely to out-slug Manny Ramirez. And Bay won't cause the same fear in opponents that Ramirez did.
But Bay will hustle. His triple in the 12th inning turned into the winning run. If someone else we know had hit that long fly ball to the Green Monster, he would have been admiring it, and barely reached second base.
A good debut for Bay.
Terry Francona did the smart thing by not placing Bay in the clean-up role, a way to emphasize that Bay is not here to fill Ramirez's shoes ... of course, now that Mike Lowell hurt his hip, Bay might have to bat fourth for a short time.
In the minors, Pawtucket hit 5 home runs, including Dusty Brown (11th) and Jeff Corsaletti (1st).
Lars Anderson (2-run single) upped his average to .306 in Double-A.
Lancaster's Jason Place hit his 14th home run.
Greenville outfielder Ryan Kalish (.294) remains hot (3-for-4).
For Lowell, Bryan Price started (4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 5 K). his ERA is 1.62 ... Seth Garrison (1.23) got his fifth save (1 IP, 2 K).
