Who is on the block?
Welcome to trade deadline day.
If you are not sick of hearing about Manny Ramirez, you will be today.
Will Manny be traded? The latest rumor is to the Marlins, in a three-way deal with the Pirates. Boston would get outfielder Jason Bay. Interesting.
Among the speculation is that Boston will part with a prospect or two (in the deal just mentioned, or maybe a different one). Who would Boston trade?
You can forget the big names (Buchholz, Bowden, Masterson and, I think, Lowrie).
Reliever Craig Hansen could be on the block. Guy still has great promise. Just has not shown a lot of it for Boston.
Outfielder Brandon Moss has demonstrated that he can play in the big leagues. But does he geta shot in Boston, which already has left-handed hitting outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and J.D. Drew?
Pitcher Daniel Bard comes to mind. Still a prospect with a live arm, Bard should be a valuable chip, if the Sox are willing to deal.
And now for the minor league results:
Pawtucket starter David Pauley (12-4, 3.40) had a rare loss (5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K).
Portland lost to New Hampshire. Lars Anderson (.241) went 2-for-3, and Argenis Diaz (.237) was 3-for-4 ... Closer Beau Vaughan pitched another scoreless inning. He has allowed 1 ER in his last 23 innings. Why is he still in Double-A?
In Lancaster starter/reliever Blake Maxwell went 7 innings (4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K). Maxwell's ERA is 2.98. He turns 24 on Aug. 1. Portland bound?
Greenville outfielder Ryan Kalish (.285) went 2 -for-3).
In the Gulf Coast League, first-round pick Casey Kelly (.182) went 3-for-5, including a home run. After a slow start, Kelly has at least one hit in each of his last 4 games ... Shortstop Derrik Gibson (.324) was 2-for-5.
