Playing on both teams in the same game
The Portland Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats have a doubleheader tonight and, if Andrew Pinckey plays in the first game, it will make for an interesting boxscore.
The first game is the completion of a suspended game from June 22. Then, Pinckney was the Sea Dogs third baseman. Since then, Pinkney was released by the Red Sox, signed by Toronto and assigned to New Hampshire.
So, Pinckney could officially play for both teams in one game.
As for the Red Sox, Jon lester was masterful Sunday night, not only in how he cruised through some innings, but how he escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam by allowing only 2 runs (still giving him a 7-2 lead at the time).
I remember talking to Lester during the 2006 spring training. He said he was learning from Curt Schilling and Josh Beckett about the art of pitching and getting the job done no matter what kind of stuff you have that night. Lester learns his lessons well.
In Pawtucket Sunday night, Brandon Moss belted two home runs ... Chris Smith (2.28) picked up his 12th save (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K).
Bryan Pritz homered and Zach Daeges hit a grand slam in the Sea Dogs' win, completing a sweep of Trenton ... Portland is in second place in the EL Northern Division, 5 1/2 games behind Trenton, and 3 1/2 ahead of Binghamton.
Lancaster catcher Jon Still (.285) went 3-for-4 ... outfielder Jason Place (.248) was 2-for-4) .... reliever Bryce Cox (5.90) continued his struggles (1 1/3, 3 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 1 K).
The Red Sox wanted to challenge 17-year-old third baseman Michael Almanzar by sending him to Greenville. He's hitting .179 in 7 games ... reliever Robert McLain (0.00) pitched his second scoreless outing (3 2/3, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) since his promotion from Lowell.
Sandwich-round draft pick Bryan Price (1.42) pitched 4 scoreless innings (4 H, 6 K) for Lowell ... Jeff Natale (.371) was 2-for-4 and is near the end of his rehab stint. he could be re-joining the Sea Dogs while they are in New Hampshire.
