Papi "almost" there; Masterson right on
David Ortiz keep saying he feels fine. But, sometimes, he also is sore and feels weak. Those are some of the things Ortiz said during his final day in Portland.
Ortiz now re-joins the Red Sox, a team which got a major relieving boost from Justin Masterson, in Boston's 6-3, 12-inning win over Seattle.
Masterson was perfect, retiring all 8 batters he faced, three by strikeout. He faced four lefties and two K'd.
Then Craig Hansen almost gave it up, loading the bases in the bottom of the 12th, before getting the save.
Pawtucket starter Devern Hansack continues to have some really fine outings, like Wednesday's (7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 11 K) ... Chris Smith (2.37) got his 10th save, giving up 2 hits in the 10th inning.
Lancaster catcher/DH Jon Still (.282) went 2-for-5 with 2 doubles.
Greenville third baseman Michael Almanzar (.313) went 1-for-4.
In Lowell, Jeff Natale showed that he is more than through with his rehab time (2 doubles and a walk-off homer in the 9th) ... Catcher Tim Federowicx, the 7th round draft pick last month, out of North Carolina, was 3-for-3 with 2 stolen bases. He's batting .313 in 9 games.
In the Gulf Coast League, first-round draft choice Casey Kelly got his first hit (a double to left), and is hitting .050 (1-for-20) in 5 games.
