Homer happy
Jeff Bailey and Jon Van Every both hit their 24th home run in Pawtucket's romp over Toledo. Chris Carter hit his 20th, and George Kottaras added his 17th.
Guy named David Ortiz hit his first for Pawtucket, in his second at-bat with the team. He has a ways to go.
What is amazing about Ortiz is that, by all reports, he swung so hard in his first at-bat. Apparently he wanted nothing to do with holding back.
Toledo also hit a couple of home runs, including a grand slam by Derek Watham (Sea Dogs' Class of 2000 and '01) off Justin Masterson. You guessed it - Watham was batting left-handed.
In Double-A Portland, the Sea Dogs welcomed two news prospects. Agenis Diaz showed why he may be the nest fielding shortstop in Portland since Alex Gonzalez. He is smooth. He covers ground and he makes the throw.
First baseman Lars Anderson struck out three times, but he also crushed a double off the wall in center field. The Red Sox want Anderson to show more power ... that's a good start.
Lancaster second baseman Chih-Hsien Chiang (.309) went 3-for-4 with his 9th home runs.
In Lowell, Jeff Natale continued his series of rehab starts, going 2-for-4.
The Red Sox signed their first-round pick, high school shortstop/pitcher Casey Kelly. According to the Boston Herald's Rob Bradford, Kelly will receive a $3-million signing bonus, paid over six years.
