Maybe Ortiz makes it to Portland
David Ortiz may make rehab appearances in Pawtucket and Portland. According to the Providence Journal,
Ortiz says he may need "8 to 10" games in the minors to get ready. Ortiz is not prone to going far from home, so after Pawtucket is done with its 4-game home stand after the All-Star break, he could then join the Sea Dogs in Portland, July 22-24.

While the Red Sox lost to Baltimore, Boston may have also lost shortstop Julio Lugo with a quadriceps injury. He is scheduled to have a MRI today ... Jed Lowrie is probably on his way to Boston.
In the minors, Pawtucket starter Devern Hansack (4-9, 4.45) went 6 innings (4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K).
Portland third baseman Jorge Jimenez (.190) has had a slow start since his promotion, but he went 3-for-4 Friday ... Outfielder Jeff Corsaellti has emerged as the team's top hitter (.304) and went 3-for-5 ... Kris Johnson got a no decision with 6 2/3 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 8 K.
Lancaster won 17-8 at Lake Elsinore (where the win was only 8 m.p.h.) ... Outfielder Josh Reddick (.352) went 3-for-6 ... Second baseman Chih-Hsien Chiang (.298) went 3-for-6 ... Shortstop Argenis Diaz has had his problems at the plate (.276) but he went 4-for-5 with 2 triples and a double ... In the last 10 games, Diaz is hitting .389, with most of those hits coming away from hitter-friendly home.
Terumasa Matuso, 25, is old to be pitching in lower Class A Greenville. But he is a rookie in the U.S., having pitched in the Japanese independent leagues ... Matsuo has a 5/46 ERA, but he dominated Friday (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K).
Lowell's 19-year-old shortstop, Ryan Dent, got off to a quick start but has slumped since (.177) He went 0-for-3 Friday.
In the Gulf Coast League, 18-year-old outfielder Bryan Peterson (.367) went 2-for-5 and 17-year-old Michael Almanzar hit his first home run.
