Bowden the next one
Michael Bowden pitches for the Sea Dogs today (the game is sold out, although there might be a few returned season tickets available at the ticket office).
We've seen the likes of Clay Buchholz and Justin Masterson move through on their way to Fenway. My guess is Bowden won't be here too much longer if he keeps dominating. See the story.
In Pawtucket, Charlie Zink (7-2) got the start a day late and cruised (8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K). His ERA dropped to 2.44.
The Sea Dogs blew a 10-0 lead and lost 11-10. Check out the story.
In Lancaster, the kids are starting to show their potential. First baseman Lars Anderson, 20, was predicted to have a breakout year, but started slow and then was on the DL for two weeks. Sice coming back June 2, he's batting .500, including a 4--for-5 game Saturday. He's up to .308.
Shortstop Argenis Diaz, 21, who was put on the 40-man roster in the off-season, also started slow. He's hitting .415 in his last 10 games, including 3-for-4 Saturday. he's up to .281.
Lancaster won 10-5, but starting pitcher Christopher Jones continues to show why he would love to get out of town. Jones got the non-decision Saturday (4 IP, 4 R). At home, he's 0-3 with a 10.27 ERA. Away, he's 3-1, 2.43.
One final note on the recent Major League draft. The Red Sox took a lot of high school players, including a group that will have high bonus demands if they are going to skip college. See the column.
