The Sea Dogs are underway here at Hadlock (Dogs up 3-0 after two innings).

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays apparently are prepared to select high school shortstop Tim Beckham with the first overall pick in the Major League draft, according to a story on www.milb.com

More on the draft in later blogs.

As for the Sea Dogs, good crowds are projected for the weekend (about 500 tickets remian for Friday night, 300 for Saturday night and Sunday is very close to selling out.

Here's the Sea Dogs lineup today:

Bubba Bell, LF ... (strikeout first inning; walk with bases loaded in second)
Tony Granadillo, 2B ... (walk; two-RBI single in the second)
Zach Daeges, RF ... (single; grounded out in second)
Aaron Bates, 1B ... (grounded into double play)

Kevin covers baseball for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He first reported on spring training games for the St. Petersburg Times in 1978. He wisely moved to Maine in 1994 and now writes about the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox—when he's not coaching Little League baseball.
