Still getting those ground outs
Justin Masterson has his sinker working again Thursday night, getting 11 ground outs in six innings, in his Triple-A debut.
Of course, a debut in Triple-A does not have the same shine once you've already made you Major League debut.
Masterson could be getting hs third call to Fenway Park, if the Red Sox want to give Daisuke Matsuzaka and his fatigued shoulder a break, in a start next Tuesday.
On Thursday, it was a Sea Dogs reunion on the mound in Pawtucket.
Masterson allowed 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk, while striking out 4.
Hunter Jones relieved (2 1/3, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K) and Chris Smith finished it (2/3, 2 K) ... Masterson, Jones and Smith all began the 2008 season on the Sea Dogs roster.
Another former Sea Dog, Jeff Bailey, hit two homers for Pawtucket (his 15th and 16th). He went 2-for-4 and is batting .318.
In Portland, the Sea Dogs lost, but Zach Daeges keeps getting on base. He had 2 hits and is batting .342, with a .490 on-base percentage (best in the Eastern League).
In Lancaster, outfielder outfielder Josh Reddick went 3-for-4 and is batting .343 ... outfielder Bobby Kielty went 1-for-4 as he prepares his return to Pawtucket.
Have not mentioned first baseman Mike Jones of Greenville in a while. He is no longer around .400, but he is still hitting. Went 2-for-3 Thursday and has a .349 average.
