Colon cool; so is Zink
Bartolo Colon solidified his spot on the major league roster with his second win (2.25 ERA) Monday night. Colon went 7 innings (5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K).
Meanwhile, in Pawtucket, the wind was blowing out, which means pitcher Charlie ZInk's knuckler was dancing (8 IP, 5 H, 3 earned runs, 2 BB, 3 K).
The PawSox hit six home runs, in cluding 2 by Jeff Bailey, and 1 from the slumping George Kottaras (2-for-4). Brandon Moss went 2-for-4.
Outfielder Sean Danielson, who moved up from Portland to fill in because of injuries, went 0-for-5 and is hitting .188. Danielson could come back to Portland soon. Bobby Kielty, who had minor surgery on his hand, is about a week away from returning.
When Danielson comes back, Portland would have to make a corresponding move, but there is no room in CLass A Lancaster to move anybody.
In Portland on Monday, the wind was also blowing out, resulting in a 15-11 win. Bubba Bell went 4-for-5 with a homer and double.
Lancaster beat Lake Elsinore 5-0. The hot hitters continued - third-baseman Jorge Jimenez (2-5; .350); outfielder Josh Reddick (2-5; .328) and Daniel Nava (2-3; .376) ... Spot starter Brian Steinocher (21st round, 2006) threw a 1-hitter over 6 innings ... reliever Blake Maxwell (40th round, 2005) allowed 2 hits over 3 innings.
