The pitching
While Josh Becket did well for Boston, although he was still out-pitched, the Red Sox minor league pitchers were doing just fine.
In the Sea Dogs win Michael Bowden and Daniel Bard combined on a two-hitter.
Bard's comeback makes for a good story.
In Pawtucket, David Pauley (6-2, 3.09) remains a good insurance policy for the Red Sox. He threw 6 innings Saturday (4 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 6 K) ... Chris Smith threw one inning (1 H, 1 K) of relief, lowering his ERA to 1.36.
Also in Pawtucket, unlikely lead-off hitter Jeff Bailey drew four walks (.422 on-base percentage) ... Brandon Moss went 2-for-5 ... George Kottaras showed som epower early in the season, but has been in a prolonged slump (0-4, now at .217).
In Lancaster, the Jetshawks were in a rare pitcher's duel. Lancaster beat Stockton 2-0 on solo home runs by Josh Reddick and Daniel Nava ... Starter Adam Mills (5-3, 4.10) went 6 2/3 innings (3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K). His ERA is under 3 in his last 7 starts.
In Greenville, reliever Bryce Cox hit a little bump (1 2/3, 4 H, 2 earned runs, 1 BB, 1 K), but still has a 1.89 ERA.
