Masterson done
Justin Masterson just left the mound to a standing ovation in the seventh inning.
With left-hander Ross Gload coming to bat, manager Terry Francona summoned lefty Javier Lopez.
Masterson pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing only three hits (all three by Alex Gordon). He walked three and hit a batter. Masterson struck out five and got 10 ground outs with his sinker.
Masterson walked Mark Teahen to begin the seventh, and then got Billy Butler to ground out, with a bouncer back to the mound. Teahen advanced to second
Lopez struck out Gload.
Francona then called on Manny Delcarmen to face John Buck.
Delcarmen gave up a single, and Teahen scored, so Masterson is charged with one run.
In his only other major league outing (April 24), Masterson gave up one run in six innings. So he has a 1.46 ERA so far.
What is interesting is Masterson had a 7.46 ERA in his last four starts for Portland.
