Colon, Zink, Cox

Will Bartolo Colon pitch Tuesday for the Boston Red Sox?

The speculation is on both sides. Some media outlets in Boston say yes, others no. (In Buffalo, Colon told a correspondent for the Providence Journal that he was scheduled to have two more starts, but that could change).

What could change is that Boston could use Colon Tuesday, with Clay Buchholz on the disabled list, and Colon showing fine form Thursday (6 IP, 1 hit, 0 walks)

A story in the Boston Herald states that Colon will not be in Boston Tuesday, based on the fact that he threw only 65 pitches Thursday. David Pauley are Charlie Zink are toosed out as possible Tuesday starters for the Red Sox.

Pauley pitched Pawtucket's second game of a doubleheader Thursday (5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K). He threw only 10 pitches more than Colon.

Zink is scheduled to start tonight for Pawtucket. If he is pulled, then the speculation will build. Zink is not on the 40-man roster yet, but the knuckleball pitcher doing well. See today's story.

Pawtucket swept its doubleheader Thursday. Chris Smith got his fourth save in Game 1 and lowered his ERA to 1.45 ... Dusty Brown (.289) went 3 for-4 in Game 2.

Portland lost as Justin Masterson got hit (6 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 3 K) ... The Sea Dogs said good-bye to reliever Hunter Jones (1.19) after his promotion to Pawtucket (replacing promoted outfielder Jon Van Every on the roster) ... Reliever Carlos Vasquez, a minor league free agent from the White Sox organization, was promoted from Lancaster.

Lancaster got a 3-for-3 performance from outfielder Daniel Nava (.368 in 19 games). He also hit his 4th home run.

Reliever Bryce Cox shined in Greenville (2 IP, 4 K), lowering his ERA to 1.13.
